Welcome to Wondering Wednesday. You are encouraged to use this as personal devotion and reflection. You are encouraged to hop on the church Facebook page or Instagram page and wonder with others.
“[Jesus] said to Simon, ‘Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch'” (Luke 5:4)
Now, before reading the complete scripture for this coming Sunday, ponder a time when someone called to you.
Perhaps it was a time when you were a child and a grown up called for you to come in.
Perhaps it is a time, as an adult, when someone at work called for you.
Once you’ve wondered about this, read the scripture for this coming Sunday:
Wonder… Jesus wants to show Simon Peter, James, and John what he is doing in a way they can understand. So, Jesus instructs his fishing friends to put their nets out into deep waters and draw fish into their boat. They are amazed at the catch. Jesus says, “Do not be afraid. From now on, you will be catching people.” God’s net of love goes deep, and we are invited to join in a ministry of inclusive love.
This week, wonder around these questions: – What might it mean for you to hear an invitation to cast God’s way of love, justice and peace? – What might it mean to hear an invitation to gather all people into abundant life? – What might it mean to hear an invitation to be called into mission?
Pray
Creator God, you have drawn us from deep within ourselves into your loving net of grace. Strengthen us to cast such a net of justice and mercy into the depths of this community and world, that all might feel enfolded by your realm. Amen.
