“‘’But I say to you that listen, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.'”(Luke 6:27)Now, before reading the complete scripture for this coming Sunday, what’s your first reaction to this teaching of Jesus? Think of at least one person that you find it difficult to love… ok, now keep reading. Scripture (click link to read): Psalm 37:1-11, 39-40 & Luke 6:27-38Wonder some more… Jesus makes a controversial claim about treating those who believe and act differently: Love your Enemies. Sustain all regardless of your judgment of them as good or bad. Be merciful, for Your Father is merciful. Here, Jesus turns our focus from an obsession with perfection to a posture of compassion. This week, wonder around these questions:– What might it look like to have that kind of mercy?– What might that it look like to have love for your enemies?Pray Come close to us, O God.Reconcile usto our brothers and sisters.Come closer to us, O God,so we may bemore merciful and holyin your image.Amen.
