PSALM 86:1-10, 15-16

Consider…

We might know that we can turn to God in prayer, at all times and for all things. But sometimes we don’t quite know how to do that. And other times, the ways we’ve prayed before might not be working for some reason. Regardless of whether we feel like we have a robust and active prayer life or have never had much of a prayer life, it helps to have a wide range of ways to pray so we can find a way to reach out to God that works for us today.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to take a look at different ways to pray using the Psalms. If you consider yourself a prayer expert, you might find a new technique to try. If you consider yourself a prayer newbie, we’ll provide a bunch of different options to get you started. But whatever your prayer life, together we’ll dive into the Psalms and connect with our God.

This week, consider the times in your life you have found it easiest to pray. What was happening in your life at that time? Then consider the times in your life you have found it hardest to pray. What was happening in your life at that time? Consider spending some time reflecting and/or journaling on these times as we get ready to try some new prayer practices.

PrayGracious God,
we thank you that you
are always ready to listen.
We thank you that you
are ready to listen
even when we don’t know how to pray.
We thank you that you
are present even
when we forget to turn to you.
Help us to carve out
a few moments of our day
to spend time with you.
Amen.
