Scripture Reading…
1 Samuel 28:3-25
This week…
There are some pretty obscure passages in our Bible. Things that we’ve likely never noticed. Stories we’ve likely never read. At least not in church.

Did you  know that these verses were in Leviticus:
You shall not practice augury or witchcraft.
Do not turn to mediums or wizards; do not seek them out, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.
A man or a woman who is a medium or a wizard shall be put to death; they shall be stoned to death, their blood is upon them.
(Leviticus 19:26b, 31, 30:27)

It’s no wonder really that some churches forbid members from enjoying the fun and festivities of Halloween!

But, what does it mean for us?
What do we do with such stories?
Throughout our series “Ghost Stories of the Bible” we’ll take a look at witches and zombies and ghosts Oh My!
And we’ll look for glimpses of the Holy in the midst of these surprising and sometimes troubling tales.

God of fall and harvest, guide me as
I learn and explore new stories this season.
In this time of jack-o-lanterns, light the way through the darkness
and surround us with your warm love.
Help me to seek not just the sweetness of Halloween candy,
but the sweetness of Your presence.
